On Saturday 19th July, the Mayor, Councillor Russ Davies, and the Mayoress, Councillor Norma Davies, were honoured to attend the official opening of the new Ian Buckett Pavilion at Flint Rugby Club.

It was a fantastic morning celebrating a brilliant new facility for the club — and a proud moment for the town. The Mayor and Mayoress were delighted to see first-hand the dedication, teamwork, and sense of community that make Flint Rugby Club such a special place.

Just a few weeks ago, they visited to watch the excellent work being done with the Rugby Minis, and Saturday’s event reaffirmed that this is so much more than a sports club — it’s a true hub for our community.

It was especially meaningful that the pavilion is named after Ian Buckett — a Welsh rugby great and proud son of Flint, who never forgot his roots. It was fitting to see his family officially open the building in his father’s memory.

Congratulations to all the club members, volunteers, and supporters who made this possible. You’ve created something to be proud of — a lasting legacy for the people of Flint, and for generations of young players to come.

On Friday 11th July, the Mayor Councillor Russ Davies had the great pleasure of attending the summer fete at Ysgol St Mary’s Catholic Primary School – a fantastic, well-attended event brimming with sunshine and community spirit! 

As part of the celebrations, the Mayor was honoured to present a Mayor’s Community Award to the school’s dedicated PTA, recognising their outstanding voluntary efforts. Their commitment to raising vital funds has made a real difference to the school and the experiences of its pupils – a shining example of community in action. 

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a lovely event, and warm congratulations once again to the PTA on this thoroughly well-deserved award.

On Saturday 5th July, the Mayor, Councillor Russ Davies, and the Mayoress, Councillor Norma Davies, were delighted to attend the Phase One opening of Theatr Clwyd.

The partially reopened venue showcased the newly refurbished Moondance (formerly Anthony Hopkins) auditorium, state-of-the-art community and education spaces, and a vibrant new restaurant area.

We congratulate Theatr Clwyd on this major milestone, and we look forward to future phases and the official reopening of the full building including Weston studio theatre, cinema, and community zones later this year.

The Mayor and Mayoress had the pleasure of visiting St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.

They were warmly welcomed by Headteacher Mr. Paul Phillips, who spoke about the school’s achievements and some of the challenges facing schools today. He also gave them a tour, where they had the chance to meet pupils and see learning in action.

The children were polite, enthusiastic, and clearly engaged in their learning, both inside and outside the classroom.

A real highlight was meeting the Year 6 pupils, who are busy preparing for their upcoming enterprise event, working in teams to develop their own products, which they’ll be selling at the event. The Mayor and Mayoress were very impressed by the children’s creativity, confidence, and teamwork.

A big thank you to Mr. Phillips, the staff, and all the pupils for such a warm welcome. The Mayor and Mayoress wish Year 6 the best of luck with their event and hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved summer break! 

The Mayor was delighted to join the Flint Guides last night for a community litter pick, setting off from the Lifeboat Station and making their way around the castle, foreshore, and football club.

The children brought incredible energy and enthusiasm, all eager to play their part in keeping the town clean and tidy. It was encouraging to see how little litter there was – a true sign of local pride! But with determination and teamwork, the group still managed to collect four full bags.

Their commitment and positive attitude is truly inspiring. These young people are a credit to Flint, and it’s fantastic to see them taking such pride in their surroundings.

A huge thank you goes to the dedicated volunteer leaders whose time, guidance, and encouragement make all of this possible. Your efforts are making a real impact.

The Guides are heading off to camp in a few weeks, we wish them all the very best for a brilliant adventure!

The Mayor had the pleasure of visiting the Flint Rainbows and Brownies at St Mary and St David’s Church.

The Mayor was delighted to see the enthusiasm and creativity of the children as they took part in fun and engaging activities. Their energy was matched by the commitment of the amazing volunteer leaders, whose dedication continues to inspire and support the groups. Thank you for all that you do.

It was an honour for the Mayor to present certificates and badges to the children, recognising the hard work and achievements they’ve accomplished. A highlight of the evening was seeing so many proud parents and grandparents there to support the children as they made their promises.

The children are now looking forward to their upcoming camp – and the Mayor wishes them all the best for what promises to be a fun-filled and memorable adventure! 

The Mayor, Councillor Russ Davies, and the Mayoress, Councillor Norma Davies, Mayoress visited MijMoj Design and enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the MijMoj workshop and design studio.

As a Design and Technology teacher at the local high school, the Mayor was especially interested in the tools and techniques on display — from traditional woodworking skills to cutting-edge CNC and laser engraving. It was inspiring to see the blend of craftsmanship and innovation at work.

Councillor Russ Davies, Mayor and Councillor Norma Davies, Mayoress of Flint were honoured to present Flint Swimming Club with the Mayor’s Community Award – a small token of appreciation for the huge contribution this fantastic club makes to our town.

The club is entirely run by volunteers – from the dedicated coaching team to the hardworking committee behind the scenes. Thanks to their efforts, children can train twice a week, take part in competitions and galas, build fitness and confidence, and most importantly, enjoy being part of a supportive, welcoming team.

The Mayor and Mayoress were given a warm welcome by Paul, the Club Chair, and the incredible Edna – a longstanding volunteer whose tireless dedication has helped shape the club over many years.

Children interested in joining can try three sessions for free, and families are encouraged to support from the poolside!

The club trains at the Jade Jones Pavilion – a shining example of community spirit in action. Well done to everyone involved – your efforts truly make a splash in our community
