D-Day Remembrance

On Friday 6th June, Flint Town Council marked the 81st anniversary of D-Day with a short but poignant service held at the Town Cenotaph.

The Mayor, Cllr. Russ Davies and Deputy Mayor Cllr. Elaine Jones were joined by fellow Councillors, representatives from the Royal British Legion, a local Police Officer, and members of the public. The service, led by Ordinand R. Dawson, was a moment to remember the bravery, sacrifice, and unity of those who took part in the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944 — a turning point in World War II and a defining moment in our shared history.

A wreath was laid by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, followed by a two-minute silence to honour the fallen and reflect on the courage of those who fought for our freedom.

We will remember them.

Mayor & Mayoress Visit Flint HM Coastguard Station

Yesterday, The Mayor, Cllr. R. Davies and Mayoress Cllr. N. Davies had the pleasure of visiting the Flint HM Coastguard station.

It was a fantastic opportunity to meet the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to keep our coastlines safe. The visit gave them a real insight into how the team operates, the specialist equipment they use, and the challenges they face during different call-outs.

What stood out most was the incredible teamwork, professionalism, and personal commitment shown by every member of the team. As volunteers, their dedication is truly inspiring and deeply appreciated by our community.

A huge thank you to the Coastguard team for the warm welcome and the vital service you provide.

Armed Forces Day – Saturday 28th June, 2025

The Mayor, Councillor R. Davies on behalf of Flint Town Council is hosting an Armed Forces Day Service on Saturday 28th June, 2025 at 10.30 am at the Cenotaph to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces.

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show support for the people who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.

As well as marking the contribution of service personnel past and present, Armed Forces Day also aims to raise public awareness of the military and the roles they undertake in Britain and around the world.

Residents of Flint are invited to attend the ceremony to mark this important day. Light refreshments will be served in the Town Hall after the ceremony.

Happy 100th Birthday Majorie Shaw

It was an honour for the Mayor, Councillor Russ Davies, and the Mayoress, Councillor Norma Davies, to visit the remarkable Marjorie Alberta Shaw (née Gibson) as she celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday 21st May.

Reaching a century is an incredible milestone, and it was a pleasure to mark the occasion with Mrs. Shaw and her family. A special day for a very special lady – Happy 100th Birthday, Marjorie!

Mayor’s Inauguration – Friday 16th May

The Mayor’s Inauguration was held on Friday 16th May at the Town Hall. Councillor R. Davies was duly elected as Town Mayor 2025/26 and Councillor E. Jones was duly elected as Deputy Mayor 2025/26.

During the ceremony, the newly elected Mayor presented the retiring Mayor, Councillor M. Buckley, with the traditional plaque and the past Mayor’s badge, honouring her outstanding service during her term of office in 2024/25.

Additionally, retired Mayor, Councillor M. Buckley, honored the retiring Mace Bearer, Mayor’s Cadet Sgt. C. Buxton and the retiring Mayor’s Chaplain, Rev. R. Hainsworth with the traditional plaques to acknowledge their dedicated service throughout her year in office.

A big thank you to Cornist CP for their wonderful performance, which all the guests very much enjoyed.

The Mayor, Councillor R. Davies’ Mace Bearer for his term of office is Cadet, C. Hughes and the Mayor’s Chaplain is Rev. R. Hainsworth.

Mayor’s Charity Fund Presentation to Local Schools & Groups

Today, our Mayor, Cllr. Mel Buckley, had the privilege of presenting donations from her charity fund to local schools and community groups. These organisations play a vital role in enriching our town, and we are grateful for their dedication and hard work.

A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers and staff who make these groups thrive. Your commitment truly makes a difference.

Age & Dementia Friendly Coffee Morning

We’re excited to announce that Flint Town Council will be hosting an Age and Dementia Friendly Coffee Morning starting Thursday, April 3rd, and continuing every Thursday at the Town Hall from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

This initiative is aimed at creating a welcoming and supportive space for individuals, carers and families to enjoy free refreshments, meet others in the community, and connect in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring people together and ensure everyone feels supported and included.

VE Day Celebration – Thursday, 8th May

The Town Council is pleased to invite residents of Flint to join us in celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with a special VE Celebration Day event.

The day will be filled with meaningful activities to commemorate this significant occasion, and we would be honoured to have you join us.

As part of the day, we will have a Fish and Chip lunch at the Town Hall – a wonderful opportunity to come together and reflect on this historic moment.

To help us with food and seating arrangements, please let us know if you are attending the lunch by 14th April.

Flint Job & Apprenticeship Fair

Flint Town Council, in partnership with Job Centre Plus, is thrilled to announce the Flint Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair, taking place on Thursday, 13th February 2025, at Flint Town Council. This exciting event aims to connect residents and Pupils Years 10-13, with a variety of employment and apprenticeship opportunities offered by respected employers.

The fair will feature a wide range of organisations, providing attendees with the chance to explore career paths, discover apprenticeship programs, and gather valuable insights into the current job market.
