The Mayor of Flint, Cllr. Ben Goldsborough, alongside Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Mel Buckley, recently paid a visit to the 2518 (Flint) Air Training Corps (ATC) to witness firsthand the incredible training and development opportunities provided to the youth of Flint.
During their visit, Cllr. Goldsborough and Cllr. Buckley had the privilege of observing the cadets engage in various activities, ranging from learning to fly on a flight simulator to working with cutting-edge communications equipment to monitor frequencies worldwide. They also witnessed the induction of new recruits, field training exercises involving camouflage techniques, and simulations for flight conditions, showcasing the comprehensive and hands-on approach to training offered by the ATC.
Flint Town Council, in partnership with Flint High School, is excited to announce the Joint Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair, scheduled to take place on Thursday, 11th April 2024, at Flint High School. This collaborative initiative aims to connect the local community with various employment and apprenticeship opportunities provided by esteemed employers.
The event will feature a diverse array of organisations, spanning industries such as defence, finance, aerospace, local government, education, engineering, automotive, beauty and manufacturing.
Pupils in Years 10-13 from the Flintshire area and their parents, along with residents from the local community are encouraged to attend and explore the vast array of employment prospects and apprenticeship programs available. The doors will open at 3.30pm until 5.30pm, allowing attendees to interact with representatives from the participating organisations, learn about career paths, and gain insights into the current job market.
Mayor of Flint, Cllr. Ben Goldsborough, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating:
“The Joint Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair is a fantastic opportunity for our community to engage directly with leading employers and educational institutions. By fostering these connections, we are investing in the future of our residents and ensuring the prosperity of Flint.”

The Mayor, Councillor B. Goldsborough and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor M. Buckley presented Lance Corporal Terry Jones with a Council plaque in recognition of his success in the Invictus Games 2023.
On Friday 8th December, the Mayor, Cllr. Ben Goldsborough welcomed a number of local groups to the Town Hall to receive a donation from monies raised at Rock the Castle in July.
The Mayor was honoured to present the money to these groups as they are an integral part of our community and benefit so many residents in Flint. Most are run by volunteers.
The presentation took place in the Council Chamber and then the guests enjoyed some light refreshments.
The Mayor said ‘It’s been a tough year for many and to be able to spread some festive cheer to our local community groups and organisations is a real honour. These donations couldn’t of happened without the generosity of Flint residents. This money was raised at Flint’s Rock the Castle and as a Town Council we give this money to causes we know will make a huge difference. Diolch o galon to everyone who ensured we can support those who make a difference in our town’.

Flintshire County Council has been inviting residents and visitors to share their opinions on its draft revised Local Toilet Strategy.
The consultation opened on 28th September and all comments must be received before Friday 22nd December 2023.
Originally published in May 2019, the Flintshire Local Toilet Strategy aimed to evaluate and enhance the quality and quantity of public toilets across Flintshire, ensuring the provision of clean, safe, accessible and sustainable toilets for residents and visitors to the county.
The strategy has recently been reviewed based on feedback received during a public consultation held earlier this summer and residents are now being invited to again share their views on the new revised draft Strategy.
This revised strategy covers various aspects of toilet facilities including those for babies and individuals with disabilities, which can be found in public buildings, private establishments, and council-maintained public toilets.
The views and opinions collected during this consultation will help deliver the final Strategy covering the period 2023 – 2025
On Friday (1 December) Flintshire County Council launched a public consultation on a draft Resource and Waste strategy. If adopted, the strategy aims to improve the recycling performance in Flintshire from 61% to 70% and deliver the Council’s ambitions of becoming net carbon zero by 2023.
We are encouraging our residents to read the draft strategy and then complete a short questionnaire to share their views. You can find further information, along with a copy of the draft strategy and online public consultation questionnaire here: https://www.flintshire.gov.uk/en/Resident/Bins-Recycling-and-Waste/Resource-and-Waste-Strategy-for-Flintshire.aspx. Paper copies of the draft strategy and questionnaire will also be available at the Connects Centres and Household Recycling Centres throughout the consultation period.
Please share this information widely with your residents and encourage people to have their say, this will help to inform the final strategy. The Council’s communications team will be issuing a range of public comms throughout the consultation period, please feel free to use these to share within your community.

The team will also be at Wepre Park, Connah’s Quay on December 8 celebrating Wales Climate Week. We welcome everyone to this event, which will be held in the Garden Room from 10am to 2.30pm.
On Friday 1st December, 2023, the Mayor of Flint, Cllr. Ben Goldsborough, joined with staff at Sainsbury’s Flint to hand out two cheques worth £450 to Flint Parish Church of St Mary’s and St Thomas’s and Refurbs Flint. These two community groups offer food pantries to residents who are struggling with the cost of living crisis. This forms the first two donations by Flint Town Council of the monies raised during July’s Flint Festival.
Sainsbury’s Flint added to the donations and contributed an additional £300 worth of food products to both food pantries. A big thank you to Sainsbury’s.
Starting on Wednesday 24th January, 2024 and then every 4th Wednesday thereafter between the hours of 10am – 12pm.
We are seeking volunteer fixers to support their efforts to reduce the number of items going to landfill and to save people money. You don’t need to be a professional fixer to get involved; all you need is to be confident, competent and happy to give your time to make a positive difference to the environment, and to your local community.
We are particularly seeking volunteer fixers with skills in the following areas: electrical, sewing/textiles, bikes, IT/computers, woodwork (delete as required) but other more bespoke skills, such as jewellery, are also most welcome.
An Open Day will held at the Town Hall where Repair Café Staff will on hand to answers any questions on Wednesday 13th December between 10am and 12pm. The weekly Community Café will also be open, so you will be able to have a free cuppa and biscuits.
Flintshire County Council are offering Community involvement in Snow Clearing to assist the local community to help themselves during any periods of heavy snow, the County Council will be offering basic equipment in order that the community can take on some localised footway snow clearing work.
It is stressed that the intention is for these operations to supplement the County Council’s own snow clearing operations and not to replace them. The County Council will continue to provide the winter maintenance service at the current level of previous years.

• Instructions and indemnity notices for those people carrying out the work.
